M A I Z 7, was an event developed by Colectivo de Palabreo as our seventh intervention that took place on April 5, 2023 in Santiago de Chile. The invitation to produce this event was formulated by the international gastronomic institution Le Cordon Bleu (France), locally housed inside the Universidad Finis Terrae (Chile). It consisted of a hybrid workshop between the collective (located at that moment in four different countries: Chile, Colombia, U.S.A. and Japan) and gastronomy students of the Universidad Finis Terrae and Le Cordon Bleu Chile. The objective of the activity was to understand how to develop consciousness at the time we account for our actions and memories through storytelling. To do this, a collective activity was produced where participants linked a series of personal photographs, so that they could understand the relationships and associations that exist imbricated in their daily practices.
M A I Z 7 initiated with the presentation of the collective and its work, and then began the workshop. Each student was asked to bring three printed images in A4 format. Each of the three images must have responded to a specific situation or event, and their choices must have come from personal experiences or memories. Thus, they were asked for (1) an image of a memorable landscape, (2) an image of something that means wisdom to them, and (3) an image of a memorable food. During the activity, we began talking about the stories and relationships behind each image, as well as their meanings. Addressing the concept of the domestic, as a group. Then, each series of images were pasted on a wall. Finally, a group or individual collage was composed from the images on the wall. With each collage creation, a brief description was worked on, completing the work.
During the workshop five moments were held; In the first, the photos of the adjacent classmates were discussed individually and then the images were posted on the wall as a class; In the second, there was a group conversation about parallels between the images hanging on the wall by categories; In the third, we talked about the meanings, stories or narratives of the images; In the fourth, we worked on reorganizing the images by teams, composing a collage according to group negotiations; and, in the fifth, a text, poem or haiku was made about the new co-created image. Each collage and each text was archived, photographed and digitized to compose working material for future research, interventions and publications.
