The 10 Roof Pavilion originates from the need of a family to configure the exteriors of their second home located on the front line in the Pacific Ocean, in Zapallar, in central Chile.
Along with the environmental and morphological qualities of the place, the need to provide types of spaces for residents was especially considered. Which brings together a minimum of sixteen occupants, in addition to each circles. These considerations strongly influenced the number and complexity of family relationships to work within the designing of newer spaces.
For this reason, it was decided to begin by articulating the relationship between the main house, located at the top of the site, with the pool terrace and the seaside, located at the bottom. We then designed the garden to constitute the site with its borders. This operation allowed us to program new spaces on the pool terrace. Thus, we designed an iconic roof suspended in the landscape, geometrically pure, to house these new required leisure activities. These decisions were made with the aim of promoting the autonomy of the different areas and providing intermediate spaces in between them. Finally, but simultaneously, we thought about the structure of the pavilion so that it adopts the aesthetics of the original house, while composing a system, singularising the land and constituting a landmark for the place.
This project has been published in different mediums, highlighting its appearance in the webpage Archdaily, the book Springtime: Emerging Architecture Chile (2023), and the exhibition La Arquitectura de la Finis Terrae (2024).
